Position Overview

The Mid-level Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day resolution of issues and requests (tickets) as well as the monitoring and maintenance and monitoring of all workstations and peripherals within the Boat Rocker Media network as pertains to hardware, operating systems, and application software.

The Mid-level Systems Administrator is also responsible for keeping inventory up-to-date; ensure all software licenses are properly recorded, as well as keeping the systems area, the systems cage, and software cabinet organized and clean. They must also work with the Facilities department to assist in employee and/or equipment installations, moves and reconfigurations.

The Mid-level Systems Administrator must work well with other members of the Technology Department to learn how to use and troubleshoot new applications and/or services as they are introduced to the production pipeline, as well as, increasing their skills in other areas related to the Technology Department to help improve their overall performance and scope of knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resolve computer-related issues for studio employees as assigned by the Help Desk
  • Complete in full all assigned project tasks
  • Assist in ensuring that the inventory system is up-to-date
  • Assist in ensuring that all software licenses are properly assigned
  • Assist in organization and cleaning of all Systems and Systems storage areas
  • Continually learning all skills required to provide proper ongoing support
  • Continually improve troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Documentation of all methods and procedures
  • Perform monitor calibrations as required
  • Perform additional duties as required

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Systems Administrator (Studio experience a bonus)
  • Completed post-secondary education in computer-related area of study
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • High level of customer service orientation.
  • Availability to work non-traditional hours.
  • Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of basic network issues.
  • Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of OSX, Windows, and Linux OS.
  • Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of basic office applications.
  • Experience and knowledge graphics and animation applications a bonus.

  • A thorough knowledge of storage and networking concepts and techniques, layer2/3 switches and configuration
  • An understanding of technologies such as relational databases, NFS, SAN, File Systems (especially ZFS) and virtualization
  • A knowledge of scripting languages such as Shell/Bash, Python, PERL

 

Highly regarded skills:

  • Experience of IBM spectrum protect and/or scale, ZFS and other storage technologies.
  • Experience of the specialized systems utilized in the VFX industry

Position Overview

The Mid-level Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day resolution of issues and requests (tickets) as well as the monitoring and maintenance and monitoring of all workstations and peripherals within the Boat Rocker Media network as pertains to hardware, operating systems, and application software.

The Mid-level Systems Administrator is also responsible for keeping inventory up-to-date; ensure all software licenses are properly recorded, as well as keeping the systems area, the systems cage, and software cabinet organized and clean. They must also work with the Facilities department to assist in employee and/or equipment installations, moves and reconfigurations.

The Mid-level Systems Administrator must work well with other members of the Technology Department to learn how to use and troubleshoot new applications and/or services as they are introduced to the production pipeline, as well as, increasing their skills in other areas related to the Technology Department to help improve their overall performance and scope of knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resolve computer-related issues for studio employees as assigned by the Help Desk
  • Complete in full all assigned project tasks
  • Assist in ensuring that the inventory system is up-to-date
  • Assist in ensuring that all software licenses are properly assigned
  • Assist in organization and cleaning of all Systems and Systems storage areas

Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on tool development for the Plates Lab workflows.
  • Manage the Data IO workflows and processes for plates lab data wranglers.
  • Set up the data properly for ingest and validate files match each show’s configuration.
  • Take in new requirements for specific deliverables per show and confirm proper implementation.
  • Manage the render farm and notify users of errors with a focus on jobs pertaining to the Plates Lab.
  • Build toolsets to add efficiency and accuracy for all deliverables across multiple productions.

  • Proficient linux shell and scripting experience.
  • Familiarity with live-action photography and post-production file formats for editorial and VFX.

Role and responsibilities

· Create a strategic road-map for IT systems

· Maintain and implement storage infrastructure (SAN/NAS)

· Design and support infrastructure servers as well as projects.

· Support network infrastructure through monitoring and maintenance

· Install, support and license management for company software.

· Vendor management and negotiation for hardware and software purchasing

· Manage and support ticket queue

Job Responsibilities

Provide general TD support to all departments in the production hub.

Requirements

4 + years of professional python development experience.

2 + years of pipeline development in film production, animation or VFX a big plus.
