Blur Studio is looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic Junior Systems Administrator to provide help desk support and assist with daily IT Department operations. 
 
Responsibilities include: 
Build and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware and software issues and solve technical and application problems.
Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
Assist in the maintenance of IT services to all Blur staff, ensuring that they run effectively and issues are repaired.
Respond to problems promptly, escalating issues where necessary to senior staff
Ensure effective performance of software packages throughout the company.
Set up and disable user accounts and profiles.
Respond to production and IT infrastructure issues.
Communicate with the team and other departments for any IT support related issues.
Provide support to external clients as required.
Provides physical support for the movement of equipment around the facility.
Occasional after hours and weekend support available is also required.
 
Skills and Experience Requirements:
Experience working with networking, switches and routing technologies;
Post-secondary education in Computer Science and/or Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize tasks
Experience or certification in Windows/Linux platforms
Experience working in TV, VFX or post-production preferred

Job Description:

Senior Systems Administrator will take ownership of the maintenance of Image Engine’s hardware and software systems. They will work with the Lead Systems Administrator to prioritize key current or potential issues and execute all administration, installation, configuration and maintenance in a timely fashion.

The Senior Systems Administrator will take direction from the Lead System Administrator and IT Manager to implement solutions which will streamline process and improve production capabilities within the studio. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with other Systems Administrators with the installation, configuration, administration and maintenance of IE’s tech infrastructure; authentication, messaging, DCHP/DNS, Deployment Systems (Cobbler /Ansible / SaltStack)
  • Maintain and manage the CommVault / Quantum based backup systems
  • Maintain and manage the network infrastructure; Switches & Firewalls
  • Maintain render farm machines onsite & offsite
  • Administration and maintenance of our NAS & Caching Infrastructure
  • Preparation and maintenance of infrastructure documentation on all systems, procedures and solutions to issues
  • Maintain and manage IE’s wide array of open source monitoring tools: OCS, Ganglia, Cacti, Sensu, Syslog, and Zabbix
  • Recommend and Evaluate open source and off the shelf software solutions
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with production and administration applications (including: Maya, Nuke, 3delight, Houdini)
  • Provide input into potential improvements in efficiency, reliability and performance of VFX pipeline

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have solid knowledge of and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Linux/Unix administration. Linux Certification preferred  (RHCE or equivalent)
  • 5 years of VFX pipeline experience including:
    • An understanding of film imagery, formats of image files and codecs
    • Experience with Renderfarm and farm management (ie. Qube, Tractor)
    • Experience supporting and troubleshooting VFX software packages (Maya, 3Delight, Nuke etc.)
    • Experience with high-end/ high capacity storage systems
    • Experience with license servers (FlexLM, RLM)
    • Experience with imaging service (Cobbler)
    • Experience with maintaining production tracking systems (Shotgun)
    • Experience with installing software packages centrally

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

  • Experience in installation and configuration servers in a Linux/Unix environment

Purpose of the job:

 

The Compositing Developer/Technical Director works with peers and supervisors to craft novel compositing tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current project and advance the capabilities of the facility. Position Overview

Electric Theatre Collective are a rapidly expanding multi-award winning visual effects company with offices in London and Los Angeles. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Systems Engineer to join our team in the London office.

 

The engineer will be responsible for the smooth-running of the office, and will be expected to contribute to the technical roadmap of the company, investigating new technology and methods to help ensure that Electric Theatre stay ahead of the competition.

 

Some of the software packages in use at Electric are Autodesk Flame, Flare and everything in between, Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Baselight, Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema 4D and more. The Systems Engineer will be expected support this software and the machines it resides on, actively looking to upgrade and improve on the current builds so that our artists have the best and most current tools available.

 

The suitable candidate will be calm under pressure and will be able to prioritise tasks accordingly whilst managing the expectations of colleagues and clients. Troubleshooting is a necessity in this role and the engineer should feel confident investigating issues independently and escalating to support and the Head of Engineering where appropriate.



Required for the Role:

 

  • 4 plus years experience in a similar role.

  • Advanced experience working with Linux, OSX, Windows in both a desktop and server environment.

  • Experience working with the aforementioned software packages although training will be given.

  • A strong knowledge of networking infrastructure.

  • Python and Bash scripting

  • Experience working with Network Attached Storage - GPFS or similar.

  • Licence server administration.

  • Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP and NIS.

  • A can-do approach to learning new skills and the desire to actively embrace new technology.



Desirable Skills:
