As a Junior Systems Administrator, you will report to our Technology Manager and assist him on day to day IT tasks as well as Desktop Support for our team.  You’ll be working in a fast paced environment. You’ll need the ability to pivot between tasks quickly while keeping a level head. This would be an evening shift.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes.

  • Participate in administration of backup operations.

  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.

  • Create, change, and delete user accounts / groups per request.

  • Support workstation management, imaging, and configuration.

  • Ensure proper documentation of systems and procedures.

  • Support in-house application configuration and usage.

  • Maintain asset tracking systems to ensure best management of resources.

  • Assess, troubleshoot, and resolve user hardware/software issues.

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.

  • Maintain license servers.

  • Apply OS, software and firmware patches and upgrades as needed.

  • Upgrade and configure infrastructure systems and software as needed.

 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS  

  • CentOS / Windows 10 / MacOS Desktop Troubleshooting

  • Windows Server, MacOS Server and Active Directory Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of Linux including command line

  • An understanding of servers, networking, storage and render systems for troubleshooting purposes

  • Experience Troubleshooting Autodesk Flame/Flare/Flame Assist on Mac and CentOS.

  • VFX and/or post industry experience

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic Python / Shell scripting / AppleScript / Filemaker experience

  • Experience troubleshooting creative programs such as Flame, Adobe CC, C4D, Maya, Redshift and Nuke is desirable

As the Senior Systems Engineer - Network, you will be primarily responsible for the design, administration, maintenance and support of the availability, performance and security of the network systems that include Routers, Firewalls, Switches, Wireless, PBX platform, core infrastructure services and Cloud.

You will also conduct network architecture design including feasibility and cost studies, ensure efficient utilization and management of network systems; and maximize business productivity by making core services powerful and flexible enough to meet changing production demands.

This role is not for the faint hearted!  You will be working in a creative, dynamic and fast paced environment.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Plan and implement infrastructure resources to meet changing business requirements, with all appropriate documentation for support and user education.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of an effective and efficient production pipeline(s) in a segmented network environment.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and supporting a wide variety of software and hardware including but not limited to:

What you bring:

  • 6 + years of intensive experience in a Network Engineer role or similar.
  • Deep knowledge of and extensive practical experience in the following areas are desirable
    • Network architecture design including network segmentation strategies
    • Implementation, configuration and support for network equipment in Layers 1 to 7 (Brocade, HP) and physical infrastructure.
    • Network protocols;, OSPF, BGP, DHCP, NTP, DNS, CIFS, NFS, SNMP, IKE/IPSec, RADIUS including use of and interaction with Active Directory.
    • Deployment, configuration and management of secure wireless network and VoIP technologies.
    • Design, implementation and maintenance of network security policies and devices (firewalls, WAF, SSL-VPN etc).
    • Formal project management methodologies and managing complex streams in parallel.
  • Ability to take on complex technical challenges, analyse options for technical/business suitability, and make recommendations to management with minimal supervision.
  • Expertise in scripting (e.g. Python, shell, Powershell, etc.) for automation and management of architecture services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of segmented networks, securing applications, data and how to apply security principles effectively in a cloud environment
  • Ability to take a leadership role in infrastructure project management and implementation, ensuring technical quality and timeliness of delivery.
  • Exhibit initiative to work solo or as part of team.

And you might also have:

  • Strong interest and knowledge of information security standards, technologies and practices.
  • In depth understanding and experience in the design, implementation and sustainment requirements for Information Technology systems in general (e.g. RedHat / CentOS Linux, DNS, directory services, mail servers, web servers, etc.), accompanied by broad knowledge in a number of other technical areas (e.g. virtualization, networking, security etc.)
  • Strong understanding of the Microsoft environment including common suites and core applications, Active Directory, file/folder permission and DFS.
  • Ability to provide direction to others in analyzing and solving system and workflow issues and problems.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technologies and methodologies and apply them to technological and/or business needs of significant scope.

JUNIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

JOB SUMMARY

The Junior Systems Administrator assists in supporting all technical operations of our studio locations. Day-to-day tasks include basic help desk support via a ticketing system supporting 350+ users, quickly and effectively responding to alerts and emergencies as well as the general preparation and maintenance of critical and periphery infrastructure. Junior Systems Administrators are also expected to continually learn and grow with the team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide organization-wide help desk and server support
  • Assist in addressing business and technical needs
  • Work independently and in teams on administrative and technical projects
  • Provision and maintain employee equipment
  • Monitoring and maintenance of a variety of physical and logical systems
  • Collect and analyze data to report on the health of systems
  • Respond to and assist in resolving incidents and emergencies
  • Timely completion of tasks assigned primarily through a ticketing system
  • Learn open and proprietary hardware and software systems
  • Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree or higher in a computer science, engineering, physics or mathematics;

Or

  • 2+ years experience in a systems administration role
  • Visual effects industry, gaming industry, software entertainment industry (preferred)
  • Team player with ability to work individuality.
  • Ability to deliver milestones/tasks under tight deadlines

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Fundamental understanding of, and experience using and supporting:

  • Windows, Mac OS X and Linux desktop and server systems.
  • Local and networked storage systems
  • Networking theory and practice (e.g. TCP/IP, VLANs, link aggregation, routing)
  • Common network services/protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SMB, NFS)
  • Computing and Internet standards (e.g. RFC, ISO, IEEE)
  • Common office applications (e.g. Microsoft Office/Excel, E-mail Clients)
  • Modern computer hardware
  • Office equipment (e.g. printers, scanners)
  • Server rooms/data centers

Ability to:

  • Work independently and in a team
  • Work flexible hours
  • Work effectively under pressure
  • Learn quickly and independently
  • Be highly organized
  • Quickly and methodically troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Effectively communicate technical ideas to “non-technical” people
  • Effectively manage time (especially one's own) and resources

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

Experience with and basic understanding of:

  • Storage clusters (e.g. NetApp, Isilon, Avere)
  • Intel, Cisco, Extreme and Juniper 1GbE and 10GbE networking equipment
  • Render farms or high performance, distributed computing and storage clusters
  • VoIP systems
  • PCoIP systems
  • DevOps systems and practices
