Linux Systems Engineer / Administrator

Overview

Double Negative is one of the world's largest providers of visual effects for
film with facilities in London, Singapore and Vancouver.

Department:                Tech

Location:                     London

Reports To:                   Head of Tech

In the Systems team we are in charge of designing, building and maintaining all

the IT infrastructure across the company globally. Our head office is in
London, where most of the infrastructure and team is located.

There's a variety of systems we need to manage - apart from the thousands of
machines in the compute farm, multiple petabytes of production storage and
backups, networks, firewalls and database servers we also handle things such as
internal web applications, pipeline tools for managing the film production
process, email systems, screening rooms and projectors. And of course
monitoring everything that moves.

We're a small team that's focused on getting things done - there are no silos
between build and support, databases and networks. We all do project work and
we all do support. As the work is so varied, we need a variety of skills.
Whether you prefer to get hands on racking up kit in the datacenter, or would
rather be stuck in an application backtrace, there's a place for you here.

Skills & Requirements

We are looking people who have a strong background in Linux systems.

Other technologies we currently use and support include:

 - Dell PowerEdge servers and blades
 - XFS, NFS, CIFS, Netapp
 - Arista, Palo Alto networking
 - perl, bash or python (there's also C++ and ruby around)
 - git, subversion
 - sensu, graphite, ganglia, saltstack, Jenkins

We use JIRA, Stash and Confluence for managing and documenting our work.

If this sounds like an environment you'd enjoy working in, we'd love to hear
from you.
