The Lead Systems Engineer provides technical direction, supervision and mentoring to the members of the local systems team and non technical departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for customer satisfaction with regard to timely and accurate delivery of services, responses to requests, and escalation of unresolved issues.
  • Performs day-to-day System Administration of client environments, including but not limited to system monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, project management, and capacity management.

REQUIREMENTS

While this position often deals with specialized hardware and software outside of the realm of normal IT gear, you’ll absolutely have to have the following skills to succeed:

UNIX/Linux:

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in Linux system administration 

Microsoft:

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in Windows system administration including demonstrated enterprise or managed hosting-level technical experience as part of a business-critical engineering/operations team. 
  • Experience in administration of Active Directory. 

Mac:

  • 7+ years with OS X, comfortable resolving complicated Mac issues and identifying and resolving problems related to OS X upgrades and LDAP/Active Directory integration. Xsan experience is a big bonus. 

Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V):

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in virtualized system administration, including demonstrated enterprise or managed hosting-level technical experience as part of a business-critical engineering/operations team. 

Certification:

  • Relevant certifications preferred: RHCE, MCITP, MSCE, CCNP, CCIE, BCNE, ACSP, VCP, EMCTA, EMCIE 

Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of creative applications: Maya, Nuke, Adobe, etc. 
  • Infrastructure engineering and technical documentation. Development and execution of Statement of Work documents, comprehensive documentation of client environments, and advanced Visio skills are critical for success. 
  • Implementation and support of virtualized environments (primarily VMware). Preferential consideration given to candidates with VMware certifications VCP-DCV and experience working with advanced VMware features including VSAN and the vRealize suite. 
  • Experience with enterprise networking fundamentals including CLI-based switching and routing, high availability system design, advanced network security design, internet services and protocols, network troubleshooting using packet captures, etc.

The VR/VFX Tools Developer provides support and development for the VRVFX. They are responsible for writing and maintaining tools for use on high end visual effects films and virtual reality projects. Pipeline TDs are required to work closely with the CG Supervisors, Department Leads and Pipeline Architect.

 

Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines.  Work closely with the team to ensure that the needs of the VR/VFX department are understood.

 

The ideal candidate will have production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry.  Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines.

Experience with Maya, Houdini, Nuke or other 3rd Party Animation systems.

Proficiency in Python, as well as a general understanding of software development principles and practices required.  Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine a plus.

Excellent Communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.

Maintaining of tools including troubleshooting and optimization.  Thorough documentation of all development and updating as necessary.  Ongoing research to recommend improvements to workflows in order to improve productivity or communication.            

A good understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting through to compositing.  A general understanding of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools. The VR/VFX Systems Administrator is responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting the technology infrastructure for the VR/VFX department of Legend. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the smooth operation and stability of Linux-based servers, workstations, applications, networking, rendering and services storage. It also includes the various software elements around both the core operating system(s) and the various application layer components that are deployed upon that framework.

 

Additional responsibilities include creating, updating and deploying workstation, render node and server OS images. Troubleshooting, and optimizing Linux servers and installed software.

Monitoring performance metrics, usage and scalability of servers and render nodes. Validating patches, applications, and new software version releases against existing system images

They will also ensure systems run reliably, plan for and implement upcoming requirements, and respond to service outages or other systems related problems.  They will conduct System performance optimization, and have a thorough grounding in storage and networking concepts and techniques. They will demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Requirements include a Bachelor of Science (4-year) degree in a technical major or equivalent experience. Must be an enthusiastic self-starter who works well in a team environment.  Previous system administration and network administration experience required.  Must have excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to quickly assess complex problems and make critical decisions to resolve them.  Experience using LDAP integration with AD in a heterogeneous Windows/Linux environment.   • Respond to Compositing department’s requests for help with technical issues related to VFX vendor packages

Education and Experience:

Position Summary
Reporting to the US Head of Technology, the Senior Systems Engineer works with the local engineering team to provide Tier2 and Tier 3 support to the NY facility. The Senior Systems Engineer works with the global Core Engineering team to build, maintain and support the facility infrastructure and pipeline.


Primary Responsibilities:

Systems Administrator

London / Vancouver / Mumbai

As a systems administrator, you’ll be providing third-level escalation support to our technical support engineers as well as being part of the team who develops and deploys new iterations of our technical infrastructure. You’ll be supporting and improving our Linux-based infrastructure, which consists of thousands of compute nodes, tens of petabytes of high performance network storage, as well as thousands of high end Linux desktop workstations.

We treat our infrastructure as code, and strive to automate as many processes and systems as possible. We work as a team to peer-review changes before they are deployed to production and rely on extensive monitoring systems to alert us to any issues. Our technology support teams are located in each location where Double Negative operates. We share a global network and provide a follow-the-sun support function.

The main responsibilities of this role will be supporting our end-users and solving technical problems, as well as maintaining and supporting our extensive Linux based server and desktop infrastructure. You will update configurations across Windows, Linux and macOS using our configuration management system (SaltStack), and monitor and respond to alerts across our server and network infrastructure.

You will also be involved in peer-reviewing changes using Bitbucket and git, and managing and documenting your work using JIRA and Confluence.

Must Have

Systems Administrator

As a systems administrator, you’ll be providing third-level escalation support to our technical support engineers as well as being part of the team who develops and deploys new iterations of our technical infrastructure. You’ll be supporting and improving our Linux-based infrastructure, which consists of thousands of compute nodes, tens of petabytes of high performance network storage, as well as thousands of high end Linux desktop workstations.

We treat our infrastructure as code, and strive to automate as many processes and systems as possible. We work as a team to peer-review changes before they are deployed to production and rely on extensive monitoring systems to alert us to any issues. Our technology support teams are located in each location where Double Negative operates. We share a global network and provide a follow-the-sun support function.

The main responsibilities of this role will be supporting our end-users and solving technical problems, as well as maintaining and supporting our extensive Linux based server and desktop infrastructure. You will update configurations across Windows, Linux and macOS using our configuration management system (SaltStack), and monitor and respond to alerts across our server and network infrastructure.

You will also be involved in peer-reviewing changes using Bitbucket and git, and managing and documenting your work using JIRA and Confluence.

Must Have

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Highly motivated, able to manage your own workload and priorities
  • L2/L3 networking skills including subnetting, VLANs, routing
  • Strong understanding of Linux tools and command line operations
  • Previous experience with one or more of git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence

Render wranglers work closely with system engineers, pipeline developers and production staff in order to effectively support our rendering infrastructure. RESPONSIBILITIES

Render Wrangler

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize network rendering resources
  • Monitor and report resource utilization such as disk space, node usage, job saturation, etc.
  • Identify and diagnose failing renders and malfunctioning render machines
  • Monitor the render queue to maximize resource efficiency and handle job priorities
  • Maintain maximum farm uptime

  • UNIX/LINUX server experience, including expertise in system installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures;

We are a commercial post-production house, located in the River North area of Chicago, providing our clients with an excellent creative process from ingest, to editorial, vfx, and finish.  We are a group that continual works on improving and refining our post pipeline, while having fun!  We have a talented award winning team of creatives, amazing producers, and experienced Macgyver type engineers.

 

The Post-Production Systems Admin will support IT requests from fellow staff, clients, as well as, within the engineering group.  We are looking for someone who is relentless in researching solutions to solve issues, proactive, ability to prioritize and multi-task, as well as, meet deadlines.  A self-motivated individual who can work independently and with a team, is key.  This individual will have the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical client and staff.  The IT group is very excited about the work we do and the company we work with, which is the type of person we would like to join us.

 

We are willing to re-locate within the US, if we find the right candidate.

 

                                                                         

RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Systems installation of Mac, Windows, and Linux through automation.

*Experience with post-production systems including:  AVID, Premiere, and Resolve.

*Support / Maintain shared storage, renderfarms, virtual servers, and LTO tape library.

*Design and maintain VFX environment and pipeline - Flame, Adobe, Nuke,

*Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max, C4D, Vray, and Deadline, etc.

*Help Desk Support for users. (Ticketing System)

*Maintain facilities infrastructure; Telephones, HVAC, and Security

 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Scripting - Python

MacOS, Linux, and Windows

Knowledge of Autodesk Flame systems and software

Worked / working in a ‘like’ Post-Production environment.

Ability to quickly learn and implement new technology.
