Title: Pipeline Supervisor – Los Angeles

Job Description:

The Pipeline Supervisor is responsible for leading the pipeline development and show TD's in producing and maintaining the tools and process necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the visual effects, commercials, finishing and design pipelines at Method Studios in Los Angeles.  The goal is to improve efficiency and quality for all segments of the studio while at the same time, reducing costs.  In addition to show responsibilities, the Pipeline Supervisor will, along with the other pipeline supervisors at the other Method Studios, be responsible for global pipeline projects designed to unify the production process across sites.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with local productions to provide solutions to production problems using global solutions where possible
Work with the development team and TD's to design and produce tools and processes for local and global productions
Establish a working relationship and a rapport based on mutual respect with VFX and CG Supervisors
Participate with key stakeholders in planning to meet shows' technical needs
Attend weekly project updates
Work with other Pipeline Supervisors; apply global solutions to local problems and where possible to globalize local production solutions.
Work with technology project managers to deliver pipeline components, processes and tools on time and on budget
While supporting local productions, work with the VP of Production Technology and the other Pipeline Supervisors to define and achieve strategic goals
Manage physical and human resources in order to achieve both local and global technical goals
Work with the VP of Production Technology, the Pipeline Supervisors and production stakeholders to establish a studio strategy and tactical solutions to achieve it.
Partner with production  leadership to help lead working groups of TDs, developers, show
supervisors, department supervisors, and other key digital artist to continually monitor,
maintain, and enhance inter-studio production performance.
Work to solve problems at the right level, escalating when necessary and addressing problems in situ when possible.
Work to resolve conflicts arising from limited resources or divergent stakeholder goals
Utilize limited resources as effectively as possible
Promotes a positive and productive work environment, knowing when to lead and when to follow leads collaborative efforts
Promote good, timely and effective communication between supervisors, CG Supervisors, and Production Leadership and the executive teams.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Engineering or equivalent
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in visual effects for feature films or feature animation
Experience in film and video post-production preferred
3+ years management/leadership of software, pipeline, or technology teams required
Ability to write code in Python and C/C++ and assist in tool/pipeline development
Working understanding of issue tracking, agile management and continuous build and integration preferred
Comprehensive working knowledge of multiple 2D and 3D software packages required
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, and project management skills
Must be a proven and effective leader with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor
Must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Proven ability to drive initiatives while maintaining perspective
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

MPC’s Advertising Global Production Teams are involved in many challenging projects involving new digital acquisition formats, ever changing delivery formats, cutting edge display platforms and the demand for increasing image frame rates & resolutions. Production staff rely on resource scheduling software to efficiently organise every aspect of a complex VFX Advertising project including Staff resources, VFX Suites, Equipment, Technical Operations, Library, Media Asset Tracking, Deliveries, Sundries, Purchase Orders, Costings and Accounts.

 

MPC runs third party resource management software based on a MySQL database with it’s own API and reporting tools. This role is to both to deliver and coordinate the configuration, development and integration of MPC’s Resource Management Software in partnership with the software vendor.

 

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Technology and Operations in London to co-ordinate the development managements and support of Third Party Resource Management Software.

Working closely with the Head of Production, Operations, Scheduling, Costings and Accounts to understand new requirements, liaise with software vendor, support and develop MPC’s Resource and scheduling management software.

In house development of business processes, reporting and analysis into third party software.

Extend support for resource management software to MPC Global sites when required.

Communicate MPC Advertising Scheduling Software development with Advertising production teams in line with MPC’s Global strategy.

The Render TD is responsible for optimizing the production of intermediate and final images that make up our stereoscopic films. The Engineer works in collaboration with VFX Supervisors, Compositing Supervisors, 3D Animators and Production staff to advise management and clients.
