Luma Pictures is an artist centric feature film VFX studio located two blocks from the beach in Santa Monica, California.  We maintain a unique culture with an amazingly talented staff and are always on the lookout for exceptional people for full time and project positions.

The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to many aspects of our production network; including user support, OS management and scripting. 

The precise tasks can vary depending on what you bring to the table, but some of the outstanding responsibilities are:

- Manage and troubleshoot hardware and software issues on user workstations running Mac, Linux and occasionally Windows

- BASH and/or Python scripting to increase production in our area of supporting the artists

- Assisting with other items such as power issues, building issues, and other general Issues

- Ethernet cabling, power cabling, server setups and take downs, deployments

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Advanced knowledge of OSX, CentOS/RHEL, Fedora including software management and deployment

- Advanced knowledge of and experience with networking concepts and network implementations, including routing, VLANs, firewalls, traffic inspection

- Advanced knowledge of DNS, LDAP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, RDP and other common protocols

- Proactive, curious, energetic, troubleshooter

- Strong desire and ability to learn and apply new knowledge and techniques

- Able to lift a server or other similarly weighted item from time to time, independently

- Extremely proficient with gnu/linux rpm-based distributions

- Knowledge of apache httpd virtual hosts files

- Ability to lead in advanced troubleshooting without guidance for hardware, software and networking issues

- Advanced knowledge of hardware RAID, software RAID, lvm, ext3/4, NFS, CIFS/SMB, AFP

- Advanced knowledge of hardware including RAID cards, clustered storage such as equallogic, sun fire, isilon or avamar

- Advanced knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques using nmap, tcpdump, wireshark, iperf, iptraf, nettop, traceroute, etc

- Advanced knowledge of linux network commands including NetworkManager, host, nslookup, dig, ifconfig, ip, route, netstat, ping, iptables, etc

- Solid understanding of packet flow, tcp and udp transmissions

- Advanced knowledge of sysv, init scripts and the startup and login process for linux and osx systems

- Advanced knowledge of virtualization concepts and implementations

- Knowledge of rpm repository mirroring and rpmbuild, for custom repos

- Advancecd knowledge of security concepts ranging from file permissions to best practices and backdoor prevention

- Knowledge of VPN technologies including site-to-site VPN tunnels

Large scale relational databases are used throughout Weta Digital and are a critical part of the Company's IT infrastructure. The DBA is responsible for all aspects of these databases' administration. Our databases are used for:

- Production Tracking
- Render Scheduling and Error Reporting
- Disk Space Allocation and Reporting
- Statistics and Data Warehousing
- Asset Libraries
- Mail and Calendering
- Software Project Management
- Motion Capture

Most of these databases are company wide and mission critical. Many are required to scale to millions – or in some cases billions – of transactions per day. We require a DBA with solid scripting experience in Perl and Python. Alongside these scripting skills, we'd be very interested to hear from DBAs who've run databases on NAS, Flash and FIO storage on physical hardware and from within VM guests. We'd be very interested to hear from candidates who – additionally – have significant LDAP experience.

While strong technical skills are essential, personal qualities will be equally important. The DBA is often required to coach and mentor developers in the use of SQL – helping them to troubleshoot queries or improve performance. We're looking for an approachable, cautious and highly organized individual. Crucially, you're the kind of person who would enjoy working in an Agile environment to take responsibility for – and shape the future of – one of Weta Digitals core IT components.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in a professional systems engineering environment

Requirements:
We are seeking an experienced, exceptional hands-on individual to come on board & lead our Network and System Engineering team of administrators, engineers, operators and technicians.

Qualifications:
• Proven experience working with IP-based client-server applications: A minimum of 2 years working in imaging and video applications over IP networks.
• Able to interact comfortably with clients, senior management and development teams and provide a high level of confidence in the reliability of systems and solutions.
• System monitoring: Manage system-monitoring infrastructure and assume responsibility for issue escalation and resource triage based on maintaining uptime commitments and the parameters defined in service level agreements.
• Networking: Experience with data center LAN infrastructure (best practices, tiered GigE+ switching, optical and copper cabling), high performance firewalls, VPNs and intrusion detection systems.
• System Configuration and Administration: Strong Windows Server 2008-2012 experience managing file servers and virtual machines in Guest OS/Host OS configurations is a requirement (provisioning, maintenance and performance tuning). Ability to develop PowerShell and Perl scripts for rapid automation. RedHat and CentOS experience a plus. 
• High Availability/Scalability: Working knowledge of the different methods of providing redundancy on many levels to ensure that application integrity is not compromised including Linux system clustering, MySQL replication, component redundancy and recovery from failure. Develop and maintain horizontal and vertical scalability for infrastructure components.
• Vendor Relations: Work with vendors for all datacenter infrastructure components and manage and maintain the physical inventory.
• Client Relations: Act as a point of contact for client technical staff during the implementation phase and for any troubleshooting and debugging of active issues at the application, system and infrastructure layers. Act as technical lead for integration with third-party systems when systems and infrastructure are involved.


Skills and Specifications
• Outstanding knowledge of servers and GigE+ switching
• Ability to work with different types of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Solid communications and interpersonal skills
• Great analytical and troubleshooting abilities

Education and Qualifications
• Degree in Computer Science, Electronics or related discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiarity with common Modeling and Compositing software packages (3DSMax, Maya, Cinema 4D, After Effects, Nuke, etc.) a plus

Thorough knowledge of the Mac OS, Windows, and Windows server platforms. Linux is a plus.

Experience with storage systems and technologies (NAS, SAN, WSS 2008, Open Source solutions)

Active Directory support and configuration

Cisco experience, VLAN configuration, understanding of routing and trunk ports, DHCP, DNS, various other networking related technologies and troubleshooting

Strong communicator (verbal and written) who is able to effectively interact with all levels of the organization as well as high-profile external customers and visitors
