Everything will be awesome when you’re part of the team! Are you a Render Supervisor interested in working with us – the studio that brought you the LEGO Movie?! The Render Supervisor will be responsible for managing the delivery of data to and from production, managing render priorities and storage resources, as well as leading and mentoring the Render team. This is a full time, permanent role that reports to the Head of IT.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Work with digital artists to ensure the smooth delivery of final rendered CG elements for animation of the film
  • Manage and monitor performance, quality, and completeness of work within the Render team to ensure that team goals for responsiveness, quality, and service levels are met or exceeded
  • Act as main point of contact for production specific render needs
  • Monitor incoming requests, and delegate work efficiently to ensure successful completion of projects and tasks across crew members of all skill levels
  • Provide assistance as the first level of escalation for sensitive or technical issues
  • Participate in the recruiting process for new employees as required
  • Set and balance the daily tasks of the Rendering team in conjunction with production needs
  • Monitor critical systems using Zabbix or Zenoss
  • Monitor farm, perform job retries, keep track of hardware count, send out farm reports
  • Manage virtual file systems by managing quotas & cleanup
  • Backup management- check daily backups, load tapes as needed, do restore as requested
  • Archive Management – take completed shot files and prep for archive onto tape
  • Aspera management- create accounts, monitor transfers, cleanup Aspera accounts
  • Execute playlists and monitor vidouts/filmouts on the farm
  • Receive all portable media & ensure compliance with MPAA and client security standards
  • Camera equipment- check in/out using asset management tools
  • Work with production and tech staff to create render & storage projections
  • Escalate pipeline issues with TD’s to facilitate troubleshooting
  • Maintain communication with production  to identify priorities and provide regular updates on all outstanding requests
  • Support open communication between operations, production, production management, R&D and all AL departments

What you bring:

  • 5-6 years in a production environment as a Render Supervisor
  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Previous leadership experience in a similar position managing a group of Render Wranglers
  • Unix experience or familiarity (proficiency with basic tools)
  • Experience with data transfer applications like Aspera or Signiant
  • Experience working with relational databases and data management concepts
  • Strong understanding of render forecasting methods
  • Knowledge of backup & archiving processes within a major visual effect or animation studio
  • Familiarity with most basic system administration tools and processes
  • Familiarity with networked/distributed computing concepts
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (eg. Perl, Python) is an asset
  • Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills
  • Desire to provide excellent customer support in a production environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people with various levels of technical proficiency in English language
  • Strong work ethic, and the ability to take direction is essential
  • Interest in computer animation and visual effects is an asset

JOB SUMMARY

The senior systems administrator reports to the Head of IT for our Vancouver and Los Angeles studio locations. This role involves maintaining existing and implementing new systems to support to the onsite and remote studio and machine co-locations. Responsibilities include third-level support escalation, as well as mentoring and leading the Tier 1+2 team members. As Senior Systems Administrator expect to work with all studio levels/departments in a fast paced environment. The Senior Systems Administrator’s key function is to support diverse multi-platform network and infrastructure comprised of; high performance network storage, a large rendering/compute farm with hundreds of users at multiple locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain current systems and implement new systems
  • Mentoring and training team members
  • Perform research and development for technical strategy and future systems; define and advocate software solutions and options using SWOT metrics
  • Provide Tier 3 level escalation support for difficult to solve incidents
  • Collaborate with IT and pipeline team to resolve cross-department technical problems and diagnose root causes of incidents
  • Guide and project manage the implementation of infrastructure-as-code, continuous integration and dev-ops methodologies in IT team

SOFTWARE SKILLS

TITLE

Senior Systems Administrator

 

SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Head of IT for our Vancouver and Los Angeles studio locations. Day-to-day tasks include basic help desk support via a ticketing system supporting 350+ users, and responding to alerts and emergencies in a quick and timely manner. Additional responsibilities of a senior system administrator include technical design, planning, and implementation of new systems, recommending the redesign and configuration of existing systems and system applications, and identifying methods, solutions, and project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide organization-wide high level technical support
  • Assist in addressing business and technical needs
  • Design, build, implement, maintain and enhance system infrastructure across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Mentor and oversee development of teammates
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in a computer information systems, computer science, engineering, physics or mathematics
  • 5+ years experiencing in a similar role, or 2-3+ years’ experience as a systems administrator in visual effects.

REQUIRED SKILLS

IT Department Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Scanline VFX is looking for an IT Department Manager to join our team. An ideal candidate should have an interest, and background in Business Management, and/or Computer Science. As IT Manager you will work alongside the IT Leadership team to manage the day to day operations of the Scanline VFX’s IT departments in Vancouver and LA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the design, implementation and enforcement of studio policies and procedures.
  • Assist Head of Engineering with high level strategic planning.
  • Generate department performance and progress reports for IT and Executive Management.
  • Project Management (establish milestones/timelines, gather project updates and report on progress.)
  • Monitor, track and provide feedback on team performance.
  • Prioritize, assign, and follow-up on requests submitted via the issue tracking system.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order hardware/software as needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with service providers and vendors.
  • Create purchase orders, track purchases and reconcile credit card statements.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Network Administration or Business Administration (preferred)
  • 4-5 years’ experience in an information technology/help desk environment.
  • 2-3 years’ experience managing a team of 10 or greater.
  • Understanding of basic computer components.
  • Familiarity with Window’s and Linux operating systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; understand end-user needs and convey them in technical language to other IT professionals.
  • Experience working with ticketing systems (preferred)

Job Summary:

The Pipeline TD works closely with artists and supervisors to research, design, develop and implement in-house tools to solve challenges during production and to make the pipeline more efficient. As an architect of the production pipeline, the Pipeline TD must create tools that not only solve current production challenges, but that will benefit the entire studio. The successful candidate can identify deficiencies in the technical process and recommend future proof solutions. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, automate, test and maintain tools to extend and enhance the pipeline.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and leads to ensure a smooth and efficient work process.
  • Ensure that software development has documentation and follows guidelines.
  • Prioritize and manage an extensive list of bugs and feature requests for existing tools and processes.

Reporting to the IT Manager (Toronto), the Help Desk Administrator will provide technical assistance and support for incoming help desk tickets and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve problems related to operating systems, hardware and software in a timely and courteous manor
  • Installing new software releases, system upgrades
  • Provide first line response for users requiring assistance with information technology issues and problems via the IT helpdesk
  • Ensure that Helpdesk SLA are met and communicated to end user base.
  • Repair/recovery of end user hardware and software
  • Escalation of helpdesk ticket to 2nd level when required
  • Manage helpdesk tickets and weekly reporting on helpdesk tickets
  • Escalation of all unresolved issues to System Administrator or IT Manager
  • Anti-virus administration
