We are searching for a Network Systems Administrator to join our Vancouver technology team. The role will be responsible for managing and maintaining systems, network infrastructure and related platforms for our Vancouver and Kelowna studio locations. 

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 3+ years experience as a System/Network Administrator or Systems Engineer 
  • Post secondary education in Computer Sciences, IT or equivalent experience an asset
  • Experience with network services and architecture (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, etc.)
  • Experience managing and maintaining network infrastructure (Brocade, Juniper, HP Procurve, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Linux (Redhat, CentOS)
  • Experience with Microsoft Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
  • Experience with automated Deployment (Windows and Linux)

POSITION PURPOSE

System Administrators will take ownership of the maintenance of Image Engine’s hardware and software systems. They will work with the Lead Systems Administrator to prioritize key current or potential issues and execute all administration, installation, configuration and maintenance in a timely fashion.

They System Administrator will take direction from the Lead System Administrator and IT Manager to implement solutions which will streamline process and improve production capabilities within the studio. They will bring forth innovative ideas to take Image Engine to the next level while maintaining stability and security requirements to ensure all production requirements are met.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with other System Administrators with the installation, configuration, administration and maintenance of IE's tech infrastructure; authentication, messaging, DCHP/DNS, Deployment Systems (Cobbler /Ansible / SaltStack)
  • Maintain and manage the CommVault / Quantum based backup systems
  • Maintain and manage the network infrastructure; Switches & Firewalls
  • Maintain render farm machines onsite & offsite
  • Administration and maintenance of our NAS & Caching Infrastructure
  • Preparation and maintenance of infrastructure documentation on all systems, procedures and solutions to issues
  • Maintain and manage IE’s wide array of open source monitoring tools: OCS, Ganglia, Cacti, Sensu, Syslog, and Zabbix
  • Recommend and Evaluate open source and off the shelf software solutions
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with production and administration applications (including: Maya, Nuke, 3delight, Houdini)
  • Provide input into potential improvements in efficiency, reliability and performance of VFX pipeline
  • Assist & mentor the desktop support team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have solid knowledge of and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Linux/Unix administration. Linux Certification preferred  (RHCE or equivalent)
  • 2 years of VFX pipeline experience including:
    • An understanding of film imagery, formats of image files and codecs
    • Experience with Renderfarm and farm management (ie. Qube, Tractor)
    • Experience supporting and troubleshooting VFX software packages (Maya, 3Delight, Nuke etc.)
    • Experience with high-end/ high capacity storage systems
    • Experience with license servers (FlexLM, RLM)
    • Experience with imaging service (Cobbler)
    • Experience with maintaining production tracking systems (Shotgun)
    • Experience with installing software packages centrally

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Experience in installation and configuration servers in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Good knowledge of and experience (2-3 years) in Windows (Windows 7,Windows Server 2008, Active Directory) and Mac OSX (Snow Leopard, Leopard)
  • Experience working with NAS and SAN storage systems

POSITION PURPOSE

The Desktop Support Specialist serves as the initial point of contact for resolution of desktop /workgroup-related problems in a startup user environment. Troubleshoot research, diagnose, document, and resolve technical issues surrounding Windows 7, Centos 5, MS Office, e-mail, Internet connections, and hardware/peripherals IT systems and support their users in an efficient, professional, courteous, and prompt manner.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setup and upgrade computer systems in a networked environment with minimum end user interruption
  • Timely implementation and maintenance of drivers & patches on workstations
  • Research and recommend hardware and software solutions as needed
  • Administer mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, installation of third-party software
  • Manage fundamentals of IT security protocol (account administration, etc.)
  • In association with Software Engineers, install and configure software as well as troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning software in the PC environment
  • Integrate and support devices such as printers, networks, scanners, and digitizing tablets with Microsoft Windows systems & Linux systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair or arrange for repair of defective computer equipment
  • Put in service calls and track service on machines (RMA #s, etc.)
  • Communicate status of issues in progress to those parties concerned on a timely basis
  • Carry a cellular phone during work and non-work hours and be available on-call when needed
  • Identify and recommend solutions to technical issues as needed
  • Document and communicate system support issues with end users, IT staff, and management.
  • Plan, develop, and maintain project schedules
  • Perform special projects as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • CS degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of Windows XP/Vista/7 and Linux desktop support experience
  • Good knowledge of and experience (2-3 years) in Windows (Windows 7,Windows Server 2008, Active Directory) and Mac OSX (Snow Leopard, Leopard)

The Pipeline Technical Director is responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the production pipeline. They design, implement, and manage tools that assist the digital artists with their daily use of both third party and in­house software and systems. These tools are intended to make the CG & 2D production as efficient and productive as possible and to develop the pipeline in response to the varied projects in production. The Pipeline TD will work with the 3D supervisors to craft new tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current projects and advance the capabilities of the studio as a whole. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, graphics, and production workflow.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with other Supervisors and all artists to help design and create tools

for each discipline to be integrated into the existing pipeline & to troubleshoot & fix problems.

• Directly support the artists to resolve technical problems, process queries and suggest alternative workflows to increase productivity.

• Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project.

• Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows.

• Complete tasks within the time frame given by the production and be able to self initiate longer term projects.

• Maintain a good team dynamic

• Train other users to use the developed tools

 

Experience

• 3+ years experience in Animation, Feature Films, Games or other

• Core Skills:

• 3dsMax

• Advanced Maxscript Knowledge

• Python (Including PyQt/PySide)

• Sound understanding of the entire 3D production process, with a specialism in either Rigging,

• Animation or Lighting.

SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Director of IT for our Vancouver and Los Angeles studio locations. Day-to-day tasks include basic help desk support via a ticketing system supporting 350+ users, and responding to alerts and emergencies in a quick and timely manner. Additional responsibilities of a senior system administrator include technical design, planning, and implementation of new systems, recommending the redesign and configuration of existing systems and system applications, and identifying methods, solutions, and project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide organization-wide high level technical support
  • Assist in addressing business and technical needs
  • Design, build, implement, maintain and enhance system infrastructure across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Mentor and oversee development of teammates
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in a computer information systems, computer science, engineering, physics or mathematics
  • 5+ years experiencing in a similar role, or 2-3+ years’ experience as a systems administrator in visual effects.

Post-Production Engineer– Santa Monica, CA

We are a commercial post-production company located in Santa Monica.  You would be working with a creative bunch of about 50 individuals managing day to day systems for one location, but a member of a team, that manages multiple locations.

The Post-Production Engineer will have the technical knowledge and experience to be 'hands-on' and 'think out of the box' when problem solving.  It is key that this person be proactive, responsive, and organized with strong ability to prioritize.

Environment consists of:  mac, pc, linux, off-line editorial, and visual efx.

                                                              

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist editorial with media management, file-based workflows, delivery and/or system issues for Media Composer and Premiere.

• Image, maintain, and troubleshoot editorial and visual effects workstations.

• Maintain LTO backup systems.

• Help Desk Support for users.

• Maintain facilities infrastructure.

• Documentation of processes, software, and infrastructure.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Worked / working in a ‘like’ Post-Production environment.

• Well versed in Media Composer and Premiere troubleshooting and workflows.

• Solid working knowledge of Mac OS, Linux, and Windows

• Experience with imaging and troubleshooting high availability computing systems and renderfarms.

• VFX support experience a plus.

• Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical people face to face or via email.

• Ability to quickly learn and implement new technology.
