The Position

We are looking for an experienced Pipeline Tools and Application Plugins Developer who has worked in one or all of the following areas: animation or visual effects pipelines, managing render farms, or specifically administering or supporting Qube!. This position is within our software development team where you will work within the main code base and on plugins for our software package - Qube!. We anticipate this role will consist primarily of integrating Qube! with 3rd party software like Maya and Nuke, insuring Qube! builds properly and works on different OS platforms, building the software for testing and release, testing the latest builds as necessary, and some AWS administrative tasks to support the build and test infrastructure.

Responsibilities

- Initiate software builds of Qube through our cloud based infrastructure
- If needed, make changes to associated Makefiles and build scripts
- Build and test Qube! on different OS platforms across Linux, OS X, and Windows
- Integrate the latest releases of animation and VFX software from companies like Autodesk, The Foundry, Side Effects, and Adobe
- Insure the plugins for each package are working prior to release and that we stay up to date on the latest releases from 3rd party software companies
- As needed, learn about other areas of Qube! and provide support for technical client issues
- Research, diagnose, troubleshoot and identify solutions to resolve customer issues
- Interact with and update support tickets in Zendesk as needed
- Take ownership of customer issues all the way through to resolution

Requirements

- Comfortable working from home for a remote team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven working experience with visual effects or animation pipelines
- Experience wrangling render farm queues or writing tools to support render pipelines
- Experience building software on Unix/Linux, MacOS X, and Windows Platforms
- Experience editing and maintaining Makefiles
- Comfortable with Unix/Linux systems, utilities and scripting
- Experience with major operating systems - Linux, OS X, Windows
- Able to write tools in Python
- Ability to write or fix code written in Perl
- Familiarity with AWS
- Familiarity with administering VMWare and other virtual machine environments a plus
- Previous system administration experience a plus
- Experience with 3DS Max a plus

Profile:

Responsibilities:

Developing our Maya pipeline and integrating into existing software pipeline.

Advise producers and supervisors on appropriate technical procedures.

Maintaining & developing asset management & publishing tools.

Liaising with studio departments for workflow problems and requests.

Manage requests from departments and advise on workflows, creating your own tools and helping other TDs with making and using them.

 

Required Skills:

In depth technical knowledge of Autodesk Maya.

Rounded knowledge of all departments’ requirements - in particular rigging and animation.

Python / PyMel.

An advanced understanding of Maya deployment in a studio setting.

Ability to manage personal workload along with advising and liaising with other members of the TD team.

Confident problem solver.

Proactive approach to researching and adopting new tools.

Fluent English (spoken and written).

Excellent communication skills.

 

Bonus (Preferable) Skills:

Shotgun or similar asset management system.

Render farm software (Deadline or similar)

The Position

We are looking for an experienced UI Developer who has worked in one or all of the following areas: visual effects or animation or games, writing tools to support render farms, or specifically administering or supporting Qube!. This position is within our software development team where you will work within the main code base for our software package - Qube!. We anticipate this role will consist primarily of creating and updating submission UI functionality, any user experience changes in our primary interface known as ArtistView, updating our chart and report generation, and identifying areas where Qube! may be able to leverage more web based frameworks.

Responsibilities

- Create, update, or fix submission UI’s both for Qube! natively and for 3rd party software packages from companies like Adobe, Autodesk, The Foundry, and Side Effects
- Make functional and aesthetic changes to ArtistView - from simple as a color pallette to as complicated as database driven reporting
- Introduce new, aesthetically pleasing reports into the UI
- Update the user experience for ancillary tools such as QubeLocker
- Experiment with web technologies and identify areas of advancement for Qube!
- As needed, learn about other areas of Qube! and provide support for technical client issues

Duties

Requirements

While this position often deals with specialized hardware and software outside of the realm of normal IT gear, you’ll absolutely have to have the following skills to succeed:

UNIX/Linux:

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in Linux system administration

Microsoft:

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in Windows system administration including demonstrated enterprise or managed hosting-level technical experience as part of a business-critical engineering/operations team.
  • Experience in administration of Active Directory.

Mac:

  • 3+ years with OS X, comfortable resolving complicated Mac issues and identifying and resolving problems related to OS X upgrades and LDAP/Active Directory integration. Xsan experience is a big bonus.

Responsibilities

 

  • UNIX/LINUX server experience, including expertise in system installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures

  • Experience with containers or cloud computing technologies such as  Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Openshift, or GCE
  • Proven experience with design and building of infrastructure for Mac OSX systems and support in an enterprise environment using Munki or Apples DEP. 

 

Preferred Education

BS or BA degree, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other Engineering field.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In a varied, complex and challenging role, you will be responsible for ?Monitor and Projector Calibration, as well as Traditional Video Engineering.  You’ll manage LTO Tape Drives (Scripts and Yoyotta), while also managing our Digital Cinema Server Support and our Mac/Windows/Linux Support.  You’ll provide Clipster, Venice and Spycer Support,  HD/SD Router Switcher Configuration and Maintenance plus Avocent KVM Configuration and Support.  Finally, you’ll get to provide Baselight General Support, Flame Support, VT Support and Maintenance and provide system design.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or related field
  • Previous experience working in a high-end data-centric VFX, Post Production or entertainment environment
  • Previous experience installing, maintaining and upgrading Baselight, Lustre, Smoke, Avid, SAN, Arri etc
  • Knowledgeable about Linux, OSX, Windows, Networking, File systems, Colour Science
  • Able to work to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment, prioritise work effectively, multi-task and understands the impact on Production and Operations in the case of an equipment failure
  • Able to communicate with multiple challenging stakeholders using non-technical language
  • Flexible to work shifts and unsocial hours (evenings, nights and weekends)
