One of Us is looking for an IO Operator/Render Wrangler to join the team.  Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, highly organised and have the ability to monitor and control the rendering process alongside prompt and secure handling of encrypted and multi-formatted data from clients to and from our internal network.  You must have attention to detail and the ability to track and document all data coming into and leaving the office.  You must be a self-motivated team player with good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable with Unix and Linux operating systems
  • Standard Unix commands for file system heirachy and navigating online, launching command line scripts, naming conventions and file permissions
  • Comfortable working with GUI interfaces for use of our propriety scripts
  • Mac OSX and Windows opertaing systems for mounting of drives, formatting and encryption read/write
  • Experienced with Web/FTP servers for transferring of data
  • Know and recognise different file formats/image size resolutions for file processing and quality control
  • Experience with the following; FTP, RDP, VNC, running Python/batch scripts and MS Office applications such as word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must learn quickly and have a keen eye for detail, the ability to problem solve, multi-task and work well under pressure
  • A self-starter who can work independently but also collaboratively with the department team
  • Work a flexible schedule; evenings and some weekends

SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Director of IT for our Vancouver and Los Angeles studio locations. Day-to-day tasks include basic help desk support via a ticketing system supporting 350+ users, and responding to alerts and emergencies in a quick and timely manner. Additional responsibilities of a senior system administrator include technical design, planning, and implementation of new systems, recommending the redesign and configuration of existing systems and system applications, and identifying methods, solutions, and project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide organization-wide high level technical support
  • Assist in addressing business and technical needs
  • Design, build, implement, maintain and enhance system infrastructure across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Mentor and oversee development of teammates
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in a computer information systems, computer science, engineering, physics or mathematics
  • 5+ years experiencing in a similar role, or 2-3+ years’ experience as a systems administrator in visual effects.

TITLE

RENDER WRANGLER

 

JOB SUMMARY

Scanline VFX Vancouver is looking for a render wrangler/junior systems administrator to join our team. Render wranglers work closely with system engineers, pipeline developers and production staff in order to effectively support our rendering infrastructure. As a Systems Administrator, you will work under the guidance of the IT Manager to ensure basic help desk and IT support is being provided to 300+ employees.


RESPONSIBLITIES

Render Wrangler

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize network rendering resources
  • Monitor and report resource utilization such as disk space, node usage, job saturation, etc.
  • Identify and diagnose failing renders and malfunctioning render machines
  • Monitor the render queue to maximize resource efficiency and handle job priorities
  • Maintain maximum farm uptime
  • Respond to rendering related support requests

Systems Admin

  • Work with other Systems Engineer to address daily support tickets
  • Set-up employee workstations, monitors, IP phones, etc
  • Create user accounts for new hires: e-mail, messenger, phone
  • Identify and resolve problems in the production system quickly and completely

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical field preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to a high pressure, fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience troubleshooting in a Windows environment
  • Experience with 3DS Max, Maya and Nuke a plus

LEAD ENVIRONMENT MODELLERS

 

Axis Animation are expanding their Senior team and are looking to hire experienced LEAD

ENVIRONMENT MODELLERS to lead project based asset teams on an ongoing basis working onsite

in Glasgow.

This role requires a skilled modeller with a broad background creating different types of assets using

both hard surface and sculpted techniques. You’ll be a personable, pro-active, self-starter who can

motivate and lead the team around you as well as work with the Head of Department to implement

consistent working practice and ensure the standard and quality of the assets are consistently high.

Prior Lead experience is a must, as is thorough knowledge of Modelling, Sculpting, Texturing and

Shading as well as the ability to troubleshoot technical problems. A good understanding of the asset

production pipeline including pre-production, production and post-production is also necessary.

Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite in Glasgow, and have relevant visas in place

permitting this, if required, at time of application.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Producing high quality environment assets suitable for production both technically and artistically

Managing a team of modellers, keeping them on track and motivated

Supporting a team of modellers with any technical problem solving

Technical and quality controlling modelling output on assigned project

Ensuring environment assets meet specifications provided by all relevant departments  

Managing feedback and technical challenges on project alongside the CG Supervisor and

Department Heads

Liaising with production on task assignment and scheduling of the team

Interpreting and communicating the director’s feedback and vision to the team

Working closely with the Department Head to identify process improvements/tools to increase

REQUIREMENTS

Accomplished examples of Modelling, Texturing and Shading both hard surface and sculpted

environments

Thorough knowledge of Modelling package of your choice is essential

Thorough knowledge of Zbrush and/or Mudbox is preferred

Thorough knowledge of Mari and/or Bodypaint 3D or other 3D texturing software is essential

Experience with world machine, vue, speed tree and other terrain generation software is a plus

Basic understanding of Lighting and Look Development

Willingness to learn SideFX Houdini workflow

Good communication skill and ability to work interactively with production and other departments to

The Position

We are looking for an experienced UI Developer who has worked in one or all of the following areas: visual effects or animation or games, writing tools to support render farms, or specifically administering or supporting Qube!. This position is within our software development team where you will work within the main code base for our software package - Qube!. The Position

We are looking for a Software Developer from the games, visual effects, or animation industry that has worked in the following areas: Postgres database support or administration, migration from MySQL to Postgres, and with scheduling or queuing tools (specifically those written in C++) .This position is within our software development team where you will work on product - Qube!. We anticipate this role will consist primarily of assisting with our migration from MySQL to Postgres, any database troubleshooting or tuning in Postgres, and making code changes to the core scheduling engine both on the dispatch and worker sides.

Responsibilities

- Assist in the migration of Qube’s core database from MySQL to Postgres
