The ideal candidate is expected to have a deep and thorough knowledge from the client perspective on desktop hardware, the operating system it runs, the network it connects to, and be familiar with popular production software tools (Adobe Suite, Maya, etc.).

Responsibilties include:
• Setup and upgrade computer systems in a networked environment with minimum end user interruption.

• Efficient installation and configuration of software as well as troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning software in a Linux and Windows environment.
• Properly integrate devices such as printers, networks, scanners, and digitizing tablets with Linux, Microsoft Windows & Macintosh systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair, or arrange for repair, of defective computer equipment.
• Communicate status of issues and projects in progress to those parties concerned on a timely basis.
• Identify and recommend solutions to technical issues as needed.

• Perform special projects as needed.

Requirements:

• 2-4 years of desktop support experience in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong technical skills in at least one of the following areas: Linux, Windows, Mac.
• Excellent understanding of technology and the role of the client in relation to the larger IT infrastructure.
• Strong skills in Windows (XP and 7) operating system and/or Linux Operating systems (CentOS) and/or Macintosh Operating System (OSX). Remote management and scripting experience helpful.
• Able to communicate in a professional and friendly manner with co-workers and customers.
• Self-starter, energetic, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Web Browsers.
• Team player that strives to maximize team/department performance.

SUMMARY:

 

Rhythm & Hues’ BoX unit is seeking an Artist Support/Pipeline Specialist. The BoX is a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented production unit known for high profile work in television, games and film. Our productions are time-critical so it's vital that our technical infrastructure remains fail-safe. This role combines scripting, pipeline design and maintenance, Windows administration and TD functions. Currently our pipeline includes Maya, Lightwave, Fusion, Vue and Houdini with Butterfly queue management, in addition to R&H and BoX proprietary tools.

 

Responsibilities:

 

* Research, recommend, create and implement new tools and procedures to streamline the production pipeline.

* Investigate and resolve production related technical problems.

* Support artist in various aspects of the production pipeline, from setting up user accounts and privileges to developing, writing and demonstrating proprietary tools and tutoring on our production methodologies.

* Act as a liaison between the BoX and other R+H support personnel and participate in software Beta programs.

* Asset Management (focusing on organizing and maintaining the group's asset library of models, textures, effects sequences, etc.)

 

Required Skills:

 

* Strong Windows System Administration skills focusing on account management, system monitoring, general maintenance, backups, data archiving, RAID management and system troubleshooting.

* Good working knowledge of Lightwave, Maya and Fusion – strong knowledge and experience in solving scene and rendering problems, plug-in conflicts, optimizing scenes and models, etc.

* Ability to write C/C++ programs, utilize the SDK libraries of Lightwave and Eyeon Fusion, and scripting in Python and Perl is important. Knowledge in Lscript and Lua scripting is also desired.

* Ability to interface with less technical artists in a friendly and professional way.

Purpose of the job: 
   
The Senior Workstation Administrator, Windows position supports the mission of the Systems department by providing Level 3 and Level 4 support, technology improvement and leadership for our 450+ seat digital animation studio. While the primary focus of the Senior Workstation Administrator, Windows position is the support of the studio's Microsoft Windows infrastructure, the Studio's Senior Workstation Administrators are required to contribute to integration, troubleshooting and project support for a wide-range of technologies that support our the Studio's dynamic production environment (see Skills list, below).
 
This position reports to the Manager of Systems and works closely with other members of the department's administration staff on daily task assignments and priorities.
 
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a representative of the Blue Sky Studios (BSS), displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, teamwork and discretion in all interactions with other members of the BSS community and with the public.
  • The Senior Workstation Administrator position provides Level 3 sustaining support for our 450+ seat digital animation studio, including but not limited to :
  • 125+ Windows workstations and laptops (XP, Vista, Windows 7).
  • 275+ Mac OS X workstations, laptops and servers (10.5, 10.6 and 10.7).
  • 350+ Fedora Linux workstations (v7, v14). 
  • Responsible for Level 4 support: defining and tracking software, hardware and integration issues with vendors.
  • Define requirements,  document specifications and estimate prices for upgrades and new technology initiatives.
  • Documentation of technologies and procedures; training for Help Desk staff.
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned by Lead Desktop Systems Administrator, Technical Coordinator and Systems Manager.
  • Troubleshooting and functional support of Linux, Windows and Mac workstation environment, including but not limited to:
    • Authentication and Directory services (Active Directory, OpenLdap, DNS, DHCP, NIS);
    • Data backup and restore (EMC Networker, Windows My Documents sync, OS X portable home);
    • Antivirus (Symantec End Point Protection); configuration management;

Qualifications:
 Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Demonstrable track record of introducing new and/or improved technology in a business or production environment.
 
   Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate: 
  • A proven technical aptitude (indicated on resume and supported by technical references) to provide best-in-class comprehensive technical support (Levels 1 - 3) and development support for the Linux, Mac and Windows workstation environment including the technologies listed in the Technologies section, below.

Escape Studios is not like other schools. We don’t practice theoretical exercises. We skip the history lessons and focus on results. Our courses teach you one discipline, in-depth over a short time period. Through intensive hands-on practical workshops, designed with a single goal in mind – we give our students the skills, experience and confidence (not to mention the demo reel) to help them succeed in the world of computer graphics.

Primarily responsible for supporting and improving all Windows 7, Linux and Mac based infrastructure in use both in Classrooms and Office environments. This includes development and provision of frontline support to students, instructors and staff.  Due to the size of the company there is a requirement that this role develops a thorough understanding of all IT systems and also provides support for telephones, AV and other systems as required.

Key to success will be ensuring that best practices are followed, systems are robust and fully documented, issues are clearly communicated to the end user and promoting a culture of client satisfaction and professionalism when dealing with students, instructors, staff and external clients.

The specific skill sets/experience desired for this position are:

  • Windows and Linux (Centos) environments

  • Audit exiting hardware and software, identify future requirements and develop a structured replacement policy.

 

  • Establish key policies and guidelines and ensure these are documented and communicated as appropriate working with the Ops Director to ensure that instructors, students and staff are informed of any areas that affect them.

 

  • Manage external vendors to ensure appropriate levels of support are maintained.

  

  • Maintain, update and rollout updates to the workstation images.

 

  • Facilitate delivery of Classroom, Dry Hire, Bespoke, Master Classes and any other training events as required.

  

  • Deliver high levels of client, instructor, student and staff satisfaction with the IT resources and ensure that continual improvement is an ongoing focus.  This includes acting as a point of contact for any technology or AV issues that arise.

 

  • Involvement in other Ad-Hoc projects supporting other departments as required. 

 

  • Provide support for the UK facility including remote configuration and maintenance of infrastructure, data management, point of contact for UK based engineers and onsite assistance if required.
